I realise something yesterday, When we are buying things, we usually take the sales person for granted. When they ask if we need any help, we say no. Usually, our reasons are that we can find our stuff on our own and that we feel uncomfortable with the sales guy around. But people, do u know how much effort is needed just to serve 1 customer? Furthermore, it takes alot of acting. What customers do not know is that the heads and executives are like spies. Virtually every other minute, sales promoters have to be on their toes.
They have to appear busy and have to constantly provide good service. When we decline their help, they have to find something else to do. It is not easy. They have to find something else to do like stock-taking, arranging items and etc. All these sounds easy but the problem is that have to do such things even though minutes ago, they have just finish it!!
And for 7-9 hours, they have to maintain that smile, greet almost every human they see. And its not just greeting. Your voice must be stereo and not monotone, must be cheerful.
And they have to take peppermints constantly. Water bottles are not allowed in the sales area. They only get to do such minor stuff during lunch hours. It is very easy for them to get fcuk by their bosses. All it takes is a second of slack. And their wages are so little. It's not that they have little to do or what. It's like we, customers, never appreciating their assistance. All we need to do is to give them a chance to help. They are more than willing to help. But why do we always stay far from them? Even if we buy the goods, they will still suffer. That's becuz we buy the goods, not they sold it. Selling means a sales promoter assisting the customer and guiding him all the way to the cashier so that the sales promoter is registered as selling the goods. This way, they will get their commission. Other than that, they virtually earn nothing.
Also, we also make things very hard for them by fooling them. we try many sizes and end up not buying them. That's very annoying. Do you know how difficult it is to stack boxes of shoes up high racks and searching for each shoe codes? It's not as easy as it seems. Sometimes, due to poor judgement or tiredness, they may put the wrong models into the wrong boxes. Sales really is hard.
Just bcuz we are buying products from them doesn't mean they must give us heavenly service. they tried to but we must co-operate with them and give them the chance. If not, all that ends up is we enjoying our things while they suffering. Let's not be selfish..
